Management & Organization

Designed from inception to provide a stable IRC community, as a non-profit organization, GameSurge is well structured for both growth and user satisfaction. Our organizational management of an all volunteer staff is a multi-layered approach, with no individual linchpin holding the network together.

Our diverse Board of Directors comes from a wide background of both technical and managerial experience and has successfully been running large scale IRC networks and internet communities for many years and bring a collective experience that will provide the oversight that will allow GameSurge to maintain its mission of providing quality community related IRC services without compromising its core beliefs,

Tiered below our Board of Directors are several committees which are responsible for the day to day operation of the network:

  • SupportCom - The Support Committee or SupportCom for short is made up of well respected individuals in our community who over a period of time have shown great dedication to the network and a propensity for management. These fine folks are responsible for support end of our network operations, as the name implies. Managing several sub committees and a volunteer staff of over one hundred members, these cat wranglers work to keep the end user experience on GameSurge a positive one. SupportCom is one of the two “Super Committees” who oversee a majority of the other committees on the network.
    • Media Agency - The GameSurge media agency is responsible for regulating media based channels ( Shoutcast / Webcast / etc ) to ensure that the broadcasters on GameSurge keep their content in focus with our community and at the same time they provide a watchdog to prevent abuse of the network by media channels and organizations who may dupe users or otherwise participate in illegal activity.
    • MTCom - The Mentor Committee or MTCom helps develop knowledgeable and professional volunteers who are the networks primary interface to our user community. The MTCom process is designed to instill a sense of professionalism and proper decision making with regard to the many user interactions our diverse Support Staff face on a daily basis.
  • NETCOM - The Network Administration Committee or NETCOM for short is the technical arm of our day to day operations. Responsible for managing the technical infrastructure and providing a solid, reliable technology experience for our user base, NETCOM is the second of the two “Super Committees.”
    • AUPEG - With any IRC network, large or small, there are rules to enforce, botnets to thwart, and individuals with a complete disregard for rules and those around them who need to be dealt with. The GameSurge AUP Enforcement Group is responsible for that. These defenders of IRC harmony and foes of would be system exploiters, script kiddies, and packet attackers have protecting the GameSurge network and community down to a science.
    • Routing - Building a geographically diverse, yet well structured IRC network is both an art form and a science. These fine folks have both aspects down. Their responsibilities include reviewing prospective IRC leaf and hub servers and collectively reviewing the network on an ongoing basis to ensure link stability.
  • Other Committees
    • ARCO – The GameSurge Activities and Relations Committee is responsible for maintaining community relations with our affiliates and managing official GameSurge Events.
    • GSDev – What large scale IRC network is complete without its own in house development gurus? These bit magicians are responsible not only for our professional quality IRC Services system, srvx, but also maintain patch sets and fixes for our IRC daemon, ircu.
    • i18n Committee - This committee is responsible for translations of our content on the website and of the commands and messages for channel services.
    • Webcom – What happens when you put web designers and web programmers into the same room? You get a highly functional, well designed web experience. Our Web Committee is responsible for the design and development of our end user website, as well as our integrated Staff Intranet which provides the solid operational basis for our network to run. Managing a large network requires copious amounts of information management and these web divas and gurus turn bleeding edge into rock solid stability allowing for multiple committees and staff members to co-manage and provide the best possible network experience to our end users.
